Resources for Hair Loss Research

Alopecia World — a unique social networking site for people living with alopecia. Launched in March 2008, Alopecia World was founded by Richard Jones and Cheryl Carvery, who has been living with AA for 17 years. Members can design their own interactive profile, create photo slideshows, express themselves in blogs, and upload music and videos as well as use the forums, groups, and chatroom to meet, interact, and discuss matters with supportive individuals from all over the world.

HerAlopecia.com — created by women for women, this is a thoughtful, informative site offering hair loss information and support. It includes an in-depth guide to types of hair loss and treatments, personal stories, online chat groups, and the latest news.

A Head of Our Time — is a world-wide organization of people–mainly women treated for breast cancer–who have been left permanently bald by chemotherapy. Together, we share emotional support, compare medical research and educate our health care providers about this little-known side effect.

Keratin.com — a site maintained by Kevin J. McElwee, a leading hair research scientist who is both an immunologist and dermatologist and who offers a wealth on information on hair biology, hair growth, and hair loss.

Look Good…Feel Better — a public service program created by the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA) in partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the National Cosmetology Association (NCA) to help women offset appearance-related changes from cancer treatment. The informative and inviting Web site offers makeover steps and hair help, including tips on how to select and care for wigs. There is also a bilingual program for Hispanic women and a teen program.
